Once you step off the ferry at Fugang Ferry Pier (Taitung) from Green Island or Lanyu, the easiest ride into central Taitung is Puyuma Transport Route 201 — about 20 minutes for NT$25. Buses from Fugang back to Taitung Train Station run all day from early morning into the evening (the outbound side runs 14 trips a day and the returns are just as frequent), so you usually won't wait long after disembarking.
Green Island returns run 2 fixed sailings on weekdays (10:30 and 14:30); in high season, on weekends and on holidays they scale up to 5 a day (08:30 / 10:30 / 12:30 / 14:30 / 16:30), with the last sailing leaving Nanliao Harbor (Green Island) at 16:30 and reaching Fugang around 17:20. Lanyu returns run 2 sailings a day in high season (09:30 and 15:00); in high season the 15:00 return sailing usually calls at Green Island on the way back, reaching Fugang around 17:40.
Give yourself a 30-minute buffer after the ferry docks: 10 minutes to walk from the pier to the bus stop, with 20 minutes set aside in case the ferry itself runs late. Anything tighter and you risk missing the next bus if rough seas or a sailing delay eat into your window.
The last Route 201 from Fugang leaves around 18:00. The 17:40 Lanyu arrival barely clears the last bus — rough seas or a delayed sailing and you'll miss it. Two backups for that case:
- Taxi: Fugang → central Taitung runs about NT$300–400; the taxi rank is right by the harbor exit, no need to call ahead.
- Stay near Fugang: a homestay near the pier is a reliable bail-out if everything else falls apart.
If you also need to catch a TRA train north or south from Taitung Train Station that evening, leave at least 45–60 minutes of buffer after disembarking (waiting for the bus + walking into the station + getting through the gates onto the platform).
